Some books you read. This one you can only look at. Between 1976 and 1978 the Italian artist and architect Luigi Serafini filled several hundred pages with the flora, fauna, machines and rituals of a world that does not exist — then annotated every one of them in a script that nobody has ever been able to read. Collectors spent decades hunting for the key. Serafini eventually said there isn’t one: the writing carries no meaning at all, and is there to give you the feeling of a child looking at a page before they can read it. Here he is on the book himself.
